For the ADI 198x audio chip, Dell and all the others with this chip on the
motherboard are dependent on Analog Devices to develop and test the driver.
Unlike other major manufacturers (e.g. Intel, Broadcom, ATI) of chips for
motherboards, ADI does not have any place on its web site (or the SoundMax web
site) to download drivers. Chip manufacturers customarily make "reference"
drivers available for download, and the reference drivers rarely are any
different than the drivers available for download from OEMs like Dell.
However, it looks like Lenovo/IBM is on the ball. Vista victims can download
Vista SoundMax drivers for desktop computers via the following URL:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...IGR-66926.html
These should work. Anyone choosing to try them can provide feedback here.
