Dell 2407WFP- should I bother upgrading driver?

I got my Dim 9200 several months ago and the OS is Vista. It came with a
Dell 2407WFP monitor. For whatever reason, Vista installed a monitor driver
"Generic PnP Monitor" dated 6/21/06.

On the CD that came with the monitor there is a readme.txt file which
suggests installing a newer driver on the CD. On the CD is 2407wfp.cat dated
11/7/2006.

On the Dell web site is a driver dated 1/16/2007.

In Windows Update I see an optional driver for the monitor dated 1/9/2007.

I suppose the obvious thing to do is to install the driver from the Dell web
site- or the one from the Windows Update.

But, my monitor seems to be working perfectly- running at 1920x1200 res and
the image is rock solid. Is there any particular reason I need to update the
driver?

What I'm particularly concerned about is any possibility that the driver
installation will somehow fail- and I'll be stuck with a non functioning
monitor. Then what would I do? I wouldn't be so paranoid if this wasn't my
main business computer.

Comments will be appreciated.

Joe

General advice: Run the disc that came with the monitor. It is generally
not advisable to download driver "updates" from WinUpdate.

I'd run the (Dell) disc or download from the Dell site and install the files
from either.

Joe,

The Dell driver will contain a Color Space Profile. An .icm file. If you
aren't using Photoshop you won't notice the difference.

So, there's no downside to just using the generic driver installed by Vista?
I don't see any so I shouldn't think about it- but, I know that it's often
stated that it's best to stay up to date with drivers.

Also, regarding this nice 24" Dell LCD monitor- what's the best way to clean
it? I have some "Lens Cloth" by Zeiss which claims it's great for cleaning
lens, monitors, etc- ammonia free. I'm always hesitant to clean my monitors
as I know that they are damaged easily.

The Zeiss cloth will probably work fine. As an alternative you could use
this dry or water-dampened only:

They rock.

Nah, don't bother if it's autodetected res and refresh rate ok.
To clean it, use a soft, lint-free cloth (reduces fluff!) and a tiny
bit of water. add a drop of isopropyl alcohol if you need something
stronger. lcd screens aren't anything like as delicate as you might
think...

Yuh, I have been worried about this- once I cleaned a rather filthy Dell CRT
using ammonia free Windex and it left it mildly streaked. Later, I used some
lens cloth to clean another CRT and it too left a little streaking. But,
with this gorgeous 24" LCD monitor, I want to take no chances. On the Dell
sponsored forums someone mentioned that Staples sells a LCD cleaning kit for
$6. Though it expensive, perhaps I'll try that- as it should certainly not
cause any damage or streaking.

thats fine, the monitor driver doesn't mean much anyway really
it just tells it what resolutions it can display and such
which the monitor will tell it anyway if it's a plug and play type (which
they have been since mid 90's or something)

so, ignore it

If it ain't broke.

I installed the driver on a previous install and didn't see that it did
anything, so now I just leave it alone.
