This guy isn't very good with Google. There was an installer bug for a
period of time that caused problems with the remove button. A simple google
search would have given him the regedit required to get it back and he could
have uninstalled it. I had the same problem and solved it in under 3
minutes.

If he had to go to Dell to get it fixed, rather than google, this newsgroup
or the Dell forums, then Dell deserved their $49.

So when your tv/washing machine/mobile telephone starts playing up Tom,
I assume you wont bother with the manufacturer, you'll have a play with
Google to find the answer?

You really do need to do a bit better than that!

Reference sources are the things that differentiate those who do it themselves
and those who don't.

Actually, yes, I would research it before getting into anyone's hold queue.

In this particular case, the problem is very widely known with a very simple
solution. Should Dell have known the answer? Sure. Sometimes you don't
always get the right answer.

Then again, do you believe every story you read on the internet? Perhaps I
could give you the web address to a site that has the Brooklyn Bridge for
sale for an attractive price.

If the goal is a simple fix, in the least amount of time without having to
deal with customer support that's exactly what I'd do. Might be as simple as
a circuit breaker I didn't know about or entering a reset code.

If the goal is to spend a lot of time on the phone and then bitch in Usenet
about the incompetence of support then by all means...

Normally I'm inclined to cut hardware/computer manufacturers some
slack when it comes to supporting software they didn't write or modify
(which I presume was the case here). However, the installation of My
Way on Dells was more than a slight transgression to begin with. IIRC
the uninstall problem was obvious, reproducible, and something that Dell
should have noticed and had fixed before any systems went out the door.
That on top of that they charged for helping users complete the removal
just added insult to injury. IMO Dell should have eaten their costs as
a penalty for doing stupid **** and when they didn't even do that they
deserved a sound thrashing.

Notice the date on that article though... July 21, 2005. Unless this
problem or something very similar still exists wouldn't the "charging
to remove its own spyware" charge be kinda stale?

It is. The OP posted the same link in the Dell forums and so far no
one has replied that their Dell came shipped with My Way. Neither my
6 month old XPS600 nor my new Inspiron E1505 had it.

It's a non-issue.

did I really? I'd like you to provide a link to my post in the Dell
forums (never been there) because I can assure you that I didn't.

In fact, I spotted the item at http://www.majorgeeks.com/ on 4th May
under "news"? I was actually unaware that the article in question was
9 months old.

I assume you're a trainee Dellbot?
