Are they the same as Compaq? I hear very bad things about Compaq.

I had a Compaq Presario 710 that would not run Windows XP Pro (2002). It would
lock up. I had it to the extended warrant repair who said that the unit was
fine, and that it was a software conflict. I reinstalled and etc to no avail.

I bought an HP ze5470us which is magnificent! It is a Pentium 4 with
everything.

Don't tell me that they are the same.

Post the same question in a Dell group or IBM group and you would probably
get the same responses. How about that car you have? Any problems?

Ever since the acquisition, Carly & friends at HPaq have been walking a
tightrope, deciding which models of Compaq are better than which models of HP,
wanting to kill the Compaq brand name while at the same time wanting to take
advantage of the many years of prominance of the brand.

From what I have seen thus far, it looks like HP models of servers have
survived, as well as HP notebooks. Compaq Evo business-class computers seem to
have prevailed, and so have the schlocky
Pavilions-built-by-Daewoo-same-as-eMachines. HP workstations, typically
outfitted with high end graphics and SCSI disk drives seem also to have
survived.

But this is an entirely subjective assessment on my part, which makes sense
'cause HP won't tell you for fear of alienating existing owners of the models
that are killed off... Ben Myers

Have an HP laptop at the office, it's in the ze5500 series. Runs 24/7
and so far A-OK.

Have had a Compaq Presario 700 series, with a lot of problems. Look
at google for "freeze" and "presario 700" and you could see for
yourselves. An very hot AMD Duron CPU plus a bad cooling system, plus
RAM upgrade problems. The result: frequent freezes, and finally
doesn´t turn on at random times.

I buyed an HP Pavilion ze5500 series, it´s heavy but robust, with
three independent cooler fans inside, and a lot of options. This
machine doesn´t appear to heat up as the previous notebook. Finally I
got a good machine for sometime of good work with it.

If you check eBay auctions, you will find a lot of used Presario 700
pieces and parts - a coincidence?.
