Hi All,
I have been looking at buying a docking station and notebook stand for the
I8600.
It is a D/Port Advanced Port replicator and D/View Notebook Stand. Firstly,
does anyone have any experience with these, any problems etc. and secondly
how does one go about ordering them. They do not appear under the Laptop
accessories as i would have expected, but can still be bought with a new
computer. Do I need to got through spare parts? Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Robert

I don't believe the I8600 is compatible with the D accessories, is it?

Really. It's been a discussion in multiple threads here where you have to
flash with a Latitude Bios.

Or at least I thought so.

Here is a link that lists compatible model numbers in the undocking
instructions for the D/Port.
http://support.ap.dell.com/support/t...c=au&cs=&s=bsd

"The Informed Hot Undocking or Undock & Go feature available with D/Port
Advanced Port Replicators, D/Dock Expansion Stations or with D-Family
Monitor stands . . . . . . . . . .
.. . . . . . . . . .To perform the Informed Hot Undocking or the Undock & Go
on your Dell Latitude D400, D505, D600, D800, Dell Inspiron 500m, 600m,
510m, 8600, or Dell Precision M60 "

I have seen better links that list compatible models but this is all i could
find right now. Has anyone here used this setup of and I8600 and D/Port?

There are two kinds of docking solutions.
D-Dock (wich is NOT compatible with Inspiron)
D-PORT (wich is compatible with Inspiron)

The hot undocking feature is related to BIOS version. If it is old it
will not work and you'll must update it
