DONT BUY AN ASUS MOTHERBOARD

I have an Asus A8N-Premium. I just reinstalled Windows XP and then
realized I didn't have the CD that came with the motherboard.

I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

(1) The websites are down, GLOBALLY!?!?!? Getting drivers is a
NIGHTMARE.

- The Asus USA site is 75% down. Sometimes it responds, sometimes it
doesn't. Clicking each link takes 60 seconds or more to load. It's
clearly overloaded and not maintained. A low priority for Asus and
it's billions of dollars of revenue. They already have your money - so
go **** yourself.

- The Asus Canada site is 100% down. No response.

- The Asus UK site is 100% down. No Response.

(2) If you are lucky enough to get to an Asus site that works, and
perhaps you were looking to make your Asus A8N motherboard work with a
fresh XP install... you would be greeted by 59 downloads for this
particular mobo.... none of which appear to be what you need... About
28 of them are for flashing your BIOS.. theres 4 for audio.... There
are "AI boosters".... There are coolnquiet drivers... there is
everything under the sun to confuse you and send you astray.. but
nowhere is there the "SM Bus Controller" or the "PCI Memory
Controller" that your Windows XP system demands to work properly. It's
100% user un-friendly. There is no description of waht an "AI booster"
is supposed to do, if you need it, or if your going to be totally
screwed if you install it. There is no way any vice-president of Asus
could fix their computer if they had to reinstall Windows fresh.
There is no tool that can just make your bloody motherboard work for
you.

(3) No where there can you download the original CD that came with
your motherboard. There is no nice easy fix if you've lost your CD.
You're going to be confronted with a slow lagging website that is
confusing and will not help you.

Something that should have taken you 3-5 minutes is now taking you 3-5
hours... or 3-5 days... My next motherboard will not be an Asus
because of this experience.

There is no problem with my ISP. The Asus USA site is now (90%)
responding, after 2 hours of being overloaded. Lets ignore point #1
and move on to points #2 and #3.

It might help if you read the manual for your MB before buying it. I've
never encountered the issues you have with your MB and if the manual said I
needed 59 downloads then maybe it is not the MB I want.

I've used Gigabyte as well and they do not offer CD images that I've seen.

The only thing I ever seem to have trouble with is once I get to the
download page. At that poitn I am given a choice between a US and a
Chinese site. The US site uses http and the Chinese ftp and I've
found the US one is unreliable but the Chinese one almost always (like
95%) works.

For the OP: What you should do is get one of those big CD/DVD
folders, something like this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1188562133458

and keep all your media in there. I got one of those a couple years
ago and it is about 1/2 full of install CDs and DVDs and such.
Because it's so big it's almost impossible to misplace it, at least
for long.

Something as critical as an original CD for a MB should never have
been mislaced and at least 1 backup should have been made and kept in
a safe place. That's your fault, not ASUS' or any otrher
manufacturer.
