I have a Abit IC7-G motherboard. I am looking at the driver
propteries in computer management inwindows XP Pro. I am using the 2
intel serial SATA conectors to make a raid 0. I note that the drivers
for the Raid controler is intel 3.5xx. Which is what I installed, the
latested for version 5 of the chip controler. But when I go to the
Raid volume under disk drives the driver is microsoft. Is that
correct?

I also note there are intel raid drivers up to version 4.7 for both
version 5 & 6 of the intel chipset. Is there any real advantage to go
to the version 4.7 stuff? Note I do not boot from the raid so it is
not hard to take down the raid.

Thanks

Gary

under Device Manager, SCSI and RAID Controllers, you should have a line
for Intel 82801ER controller, and in it the driver listed should be
Intel's iaStor.sys, version 3.5.0.2568 6/17/2003 (that's what mine says
at least).

also in devMngr, the line for the raid 0 volume itself will list microsoft
driver files - that's fine, the ms driver "sits on top of" the raid
driver.

So, everything you stated is just fine, no worries!

IAA version 3.5.3. is the latest and greatest for the ICH5R, so you are
just fine. The newer IAA is mainly for ICH6R, tho it too will work w/ the
ICH5R, tho it buys you nothing (apparently, according to the description).
I would guess it's larger too.

Thanks Frodo:

I think I will leave well enought alone. I had read on the intel site
that going to version 4 of the software for a ICH5R machine would
allow you to use the new improved (?) software. Never saw what was
improved. But yes Version seems more for ICH6R. My new machine is
getting old.

Thanks for your research and reply.
