I have a Dimension 9200 and a laptop Inspiron 8600 running identical
Excel files (Excel 2003). Only on the 9200 I occasionally get the
error "Automation error Exception occurred". Excel shuts down and
restarts with the option of using the auto-backup files.

Happens 1 or 2 times a week, somtimes when opening and sometimes when
saving and closing files.

Not a big deal but maybe there's an easy fix.

Robert

What is different between the two computers? Same version of Excel?
Same level of corrections/patches applied? ... Ben Myers

Sounds like a DEP error to me. If you run Windows XP, open up System
(under the Control Panel), Advanced (tab), Performance Settings
(button), and Data Execution Prevention (tab).

Everything is the same as far as I know. Both running XP and Excel 2003.

An automation error sounds very much like a macro that is not working
properly or has a bug that comes out after so much run time.

I'd check to see if anyone has installed a macro or extension to Excel, and
if they have, try disabling it.
