Exceeding The Physical Limitations Of A CD?

Hi,

Is it true that the new high speed 52x CD drives can exceed the
physical limitations of the CD, thus causing it to warp, and finally
shattering the disk into hundreds of pieces and thrusting them at mach
speed through all of your computer hardware components and devices?

Dramatic... Huh

Reports have surfaced regarding such things.

Whenever such reports have been [allegedly] verified, the cause of the disc
failure was usually found to be inferior manufacturing and / or inferior
materials.

Most reports have indicated that the disc was known to be physically damaged
or split, or the disc layers were not properly bonded.

I just love this topic, because it is sooooo much fun. At the website
below, a maniac takes his 30,000+ rpm Dremel drill and...well, I'll
let you find the rest out. Absolutely a hoot, must watch video.

Here it is,

rofl, I almost fall off my chair everytime I read that page.

That's pretty funny too.

Have fun,

I have heard that drives as slow as 32x have suffered this problem.
Most peg the cause on hairline fractures that develop over time in the
center of the disc caused by removing a CD from it's jewel case and
improper weight distribution causing excessive stress on the CD at
high speeds.

If it does shatter assuming that the 52x drive is at full speed those
pieces only travel around mach .52 or about 380 MPH.
