My Inspiron 9400 had XP Media Center on it on a 200G 7200 rpm. I decided to
install Vista on the same HD, but I wanted to do a clean install. Since I
have had good luck with the XP File and Setttings Transfer applet in the
past for XP machines I was thinking I could just fire this up and create a
set of compressed files on a removeable HD. Then I could clean install Vista
on the old HD and suck the compressed files with its File and Settings
Transfer wizard.
No joy! There appears to be now obvious way to do this. It does allow you to
transfer files and settings over the network from an active XP machine, but
I don't have that anymore.
Has anyone managed to transfer the compressed XP files to a Vista machine?
If so, what am I missing?
Thanks,
Mike
