Finding a Win98SE drive for a Deskjet 812C

According to the HP site, they stopped hosting Windows 98 drivers in
July. Where can I download the Deskjet 812C driver?
I need to install a second printer on a win98 system, but the option for
the DeskJet 812C does not appear in the list when I try to add a
printer, and I can't find the CD. This is odd, because I have a
different configuration for this printer installed with the proper
driver. Shouldn't that make it appear in the list?

Alternately, is there a trick I can use to copy the existing 812C
configuration so I can set up another one with different default settings?

or share your printer on the network, browse network neighboorhood and
locate your own computer, double click on the printer share, and install the
network version of the printer (picking up the driver from the host - your
own driver that is).

I didn't have any problem finding DeskJet 812C drivers on the HP site.

For Windows 98 ???? 98 ???? If you found them, they must be off in some
wormhole on the HP web site. If one does the logical thing by putting "DeskJet
812C" into the HP web site's search and searching for downloads, one ends up at
a page saying that HP no longer provides drivers for Windows 95/98/ME. In
other words, the drivers appear to have been removed from the web site. I'm
sure that the cost savings of having a few megabytes less on the web site must
be huge. Or maybe Bill Gate$ or $teve Ballmer twisted the arms of someone at
HP. Personally, I have no love for 95/98/ME any more, but I can understand why
some financially impaired people still want to run these DOS-based versions of
Windows... Ben Myers

Try this link.

Since I wasn't looking personally for the drivers, I stopped at the main
page. driverguide has them though.

Well, it's good that somebody has enouigh sense to archive them. But you
previously stated that the HP web site had 812c drivers. I'm still waiting for
the secret codes to find them there... Ben Myers

Ok, this is a dumb question, but the file in question is an installer. I
already have a valid 812C driver installed along with the tools, even
though I can't find that CD anywhere, but what I want to do is create a
second printer with a SLIGHTLY different configuration. Actually, I want
to create three. Will this installer overwrite the existing printer I
already have, or allow me to accomplish my goal? I want to keep the old
one as it is and set it to my default (it should already be so).

The idea is to have one that is for normal printing, which is set to use
greyscale only (to save $ on expensive color cartridges when I'm
printing MapQuest maps where I don't need color), one for color
printing, and one for a different paper type that I MIGHT want to print
on the old computer.

The DeskJet 812C installer will probably accomplish what you want. If not, you
may have to reinstall the original instance of the printer driver. I have
often used the DeskJet 600 black & white driver to accomplish the same end
result, namely to cut down on replacement cartridge cost. The DeskJet 600
driver can be considered a lowest common denominator for most (except for the
stinking Windows printers) DeskJet printers and All-in-One devices which use
progressively more functional versions of HP's proprietary printer control
language (PCL)... Ben Myers

The problem is that when I tried to print a Mapquest map (with driving
directions) using the Deskjet 600 drvier the map was of a lower quality
than when I use the Deskjet 812C driver. I tried messing with the
options, and it was set to use 300dpi, I tried setting it to 600dip, but
it didn't print right. I need something that will print greyscale and
still have a legible Mapquest map. That's the main reason for setting up
a second printer, so I don't waste color on mapquest directions.
