Dear Community,
I have recently purchased an HP Pavilion dv6115ca notebook (on December
27, 2006) and I have been experiencing a frequently occurring,
high-pitched buzzing or whining sound coming from what seems to be an
internal component of the laptop. An intuitive guess would be that the
noise is generated as electrical current runs through the component.
Though the noise is faint, the nature of the sound is highly annoying
and can become irritating during prolonged use of the computer.
It appears that other Pavilion models have been exhibiting the same
behavior:

The second link just above presents a link to a forum post that
outlines a solution by shutting off the automatic power control of USB
root hubs:

This defect should have been detected during testing and could have
been potentially resolved before mass production and commercial sale.
It's unfortunate to have to lose this power control feature to
eliminate noise that shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem and does anyone know a better
work-around?
Regards,
Notebooker
