Can anyone help/explain please. Have read manual/been to website but no joy.

I have the above motherboard, P4 Prescott 3.0 processor, 1gb PC3200.
Connected to the board 1 IDE DVDROM (IDE 1)
1 Segate Baracuda 7200 SATA Hard Drive connected to SATA0
1 Floppy Drive
1 AGP Graphics Card.

Bios is latest version (FG)

I am trying to set the system up, and just want to make sure I am doing it
OK. Dealer speaks Round Objects, so is of no help.

The BIOS detects the Hard Drive as IDE Channel 2 Master on CMOS Setup, and
as SCSI-0 on Advanced BIOS Hard Disc Boot Priority
On Intergrated Peripherals if On Chip SATA is set to Auto this set up does
not change and I cannot set up Windows XP as the BIOS does not find a Hard
Drive.

In order to get anywhere I can use the DISK Utility OEM set up from the
GIGABYTE website, and this allows windows to load, but not install as BIOS
still cannot
the Hard Drive as it is on Channel 2..

This is also true if I remove the DVDROM drive from the IDE Controller. ON
Chip SATA set to auto does not remap the Hard Drive to IDE 0 as it says it
will.

The only way I can get the system to work is to set ON Chip SATA to MANUAL
and configure SATA port 0 to be IDE Pri. Master. But Windows only reconises
the Drive
as being DMA2.

So, can anyone help. Do I need to install some other drivers before / after
windows (I have installed the drivers from the mobo CDROM).?
Do I need to install RAID, as I will only ever have 1 SATA drive in the
machine?

Thanks in advance

Norman

Hi,

1. get the latest bios for the 8ik1100 rev 2 and update

2. Connect the DVD drive as master to the primary IDE channel and the
sata to port A/0 (not b)

3. in the bius, hit control-f1 to get advanced mode

4. set the sata mode to manual, serial ata 0 (not auto, not remap to
ide)

(you will reboot and see cdrom on device 0 master and the HD on device
2 master.

5. make sure the boot sequence shows your sata drive first (but the
first boot device is still cdrom)

5. download and make the ICH4 floppy from intel, even though you
aren't using raid i had to use this driver to make the xp install
work. ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo...ar2_floppy.exe

6. start xp install, use F6 and the floppy above to specify the intel
drivers, and you should be good to go.
