So... Is there a cheap part I can get to solve this slight problem?
The laptop has not been sat on, nor has it been dropped. However, it
has been transported quite often.
Here is a link to the graphic.

Could be the LCD screen itself or the video card (some video cards are
built into the motherboard). Be interesting what happens when you
connect it up to an external monitor. For my Gateway MX6124, eBay has
both my motherboards (I have a separate video card) and LCD screens are
running about $200 each. So that might give you an idea about the prices
to fix yours. Does the line also show up at POST (when the laptop first
turns on)? Or just once Windows loads up?

It appears constantly, before Windows loads.

What does this mean? LCD or motherboardboard?

Could be LCD or if you're real lucky you just need to reseat the cable
from the mobo to the LCD panel. Also could be thatthe ribbon cable from
the inverter to the LCD needs to be reseated.

I'll check the cable, and if that doesn't work I'll order a ribbon
cable. Let's start cheap.

Hi!

> No. The only fix is a total replacement of the LCD panel ($150 to $450).

It won't hurt to check the cabling, although I do agree with your assessment
of the situation. Who knows? The OP could get lucky.

I would also suggest gently "massaging" the edges of the panel near the
defect to see if it goes away. I had a panel do this, and it turned out that
the defect could be made to go away by simply pressing or flexing the panel.
Eventually it went away entirely and hasn't been back.

I was talking about the actual ribbon cable from the inverter to
inside/back of the actual panel.
And Yes a quick reconnect of those teeny tiny connectors can fix this
problem.
