Just curious why there are very few questions and replies here. Is
Gigabyte dead?

That's why I was asking Andy. I just had an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe fail on
me and was considering going with Gigabyte. I figured I was come over
here and inquire as to what motherboard Gigabyte had to offer that was
comparable.

Strange, but over the last 11 years I've had an Abit BE6 II Rev 2.0, an Asus
A7V333 Deluxe, Two forgotten Gigabyte boards, an Asus A8V Deluxe, two MSI
K8N Neo2 Platinums, an Asus A8n-E and an Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe.

Of them all the ones that don't stick in the mind are the MSI and the
Gigabyte boards, why? Probably because they did what they said they'd do and
didn't have any oddities about them. The Abit was stable as hell and clocked
like a beast and the Asus boards? Well, I always feel like a beta tester
when I'm an early adopter of Asus' boards, sometimes things get fixed but
more often than not the board soon gets dropped in favour of the next gen of
that chipset and the users get left with faulty boards time and time again.

Gigabyte for me next I think.

Just my 2 pence.

Andy

pretty good memory
presently running an Abit AN8-SLI...a Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4
in the closet a Asrock 939 dual sata
in the past.....2 Asus boards..1 Epox board.........2 intel boards
The Asrock was the cheapest and the least troublesome
then the Gigabyte
then one of Asus..A7N8 del I think.........its running in a friends computer
then the Abit.........damn soundcard that came with board never did
work...thank god for Creative
1st version of BIOS did not support CPU chip
properly
Video card boot problems
Sure I overcame all those and learned a bit in the process and now its
running like a dream...but initial setup was a bitch

In article <nu4Mi.8303$>, says...

I can only second this. I've had lots of Abit and Asus mobos over the years,
and mostly they've been very good going on exceptional, but there have also
been 'features' and a couple of real dogs.

While I've had one GB motherboard where I simply could NOT get my system to a
stable configuration with Win98 (ended up with a NF7-S instead) I must say that
all the other GB boards I have installed for people over the years have been
performing without any trouble. Plug it in, turn it on, and it runs. Same for
my current GA-N650 sli DS4. Just keep EasyTune5 out of the loop <grin> THAT has
caused a couple of BSODs. Fortunately I had read about that happening on a
hardware review site so I know what was up.

By the way, can somebody explain to me what those DS2-3-4-6 suffixes to the
model numbers actually stand for? I haven't figured it out yet.
