hi all,
I tried replacing an NVidia Vanta 8mb card on a Suse 9.0
Linux system with a new Geforce2 MX400 DDR 64MB card.
1. I uninstalled the driver for the old card in init 3
2. Shut off the computer, put in the new card.
3. The new card installation went well. During startup
Yast asked me to accept the new card. After reaching
the desktop I went into init 3, recompiled the kernel
and reinstalled the driver, then went into sax2
sax2 -m 0=nvidia, NVidia splash screen came up then sax2
asking me to acknowledge by pressing ok.
4. I rebooted and card worked great!
I went through this description to try
to show the installation appeared to be
text book success.
Now the kicker: I turned off the computer. The
next day when I fire it up I get no video! The
monitor has only a flashing orange light.
So I pull out the new card and go through reinstalling
the old card with out a hitch...turn off the puter
try to restart it and same thing happens all over again!
Bottom line: anytime I turn the power off, if I want
to restart the computer I have to switch graphics cards!
Any ideas would be truly appreciated.
thanx
