HDTV wonder & channel resolution

Does anyone know a way that I can force the DTV application to use a
certain resolution on a certain channel?

I'm having a problem where some channels are either not broadcasting the
correct resolution for the application to determine how to display it,
or the application is buggy (most likely).

Here's the way it is working:

Channel 11 and 13 in my area are 1080i. When I tune into channel 11
directly, I get sound, but no picture. When I tune into channel 13, I
get picture and sound. If I tune into channel 13 first, then into
channel 11, I get picture and sound on 11.

If I'm on a channel that's 480i or 720p, then switch to channel 11, I
get sound, but no picture.

make any sense?

I was thinking if there was a way I could tell the application to always
display channel 11 at 1080i, the problem would go away.

On my system DTV also doesn't do a good job of deciphering the resolutions
but I always get audio and video when the signal is strong enough. It seems
to have gotten worse with MMC9.02.

The HD stations here are 1080i sometimes 720p other times.

With what hardware do you achieve HDTV on your computer? My PC box does
cable TV with an ATI AIW card, if I can get HDTV going with my computer,
I'd like to give it a try.
