Hello All:

I bought an OEM XP2600+ (oem) to replace my XP1800+ (retail) for my
K7S5A. If anyone can give a recommendation for a good heatsink/fan
with this setup, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm interested in good
cpu cooling and no issues with installation/space. I've looked into a
few Speeze and Thermaltake solutions but am not completely sold on
either companies offerings yet.

TIA for your help!

Bill

Try out the cooler master aero 7 one of the better ones, cool looking,
and the price is reasonable.

My favorite chep cooler for the XP is the Global Win FSP82.
www.globalwin.com.tw

They are big and lite, with a big quiet fan. They are cheaply priced and
have the three prong clip for your socket.

Personally this is one area I wouldn't skimp on -- especially if you're
interested in overclocking.
I'd look at Thermalright's solutions -- they've got top four spots on the
overclockers.com heatsink ratings.

Yes that's right put half of the cost of your motherboard into a cooling
solution for your CPU that will be worth $45 in the next four months.

If you really want to protect that CPU buy a Nforce2 board and you won't
have to worry if the fan fails at all. And to boot you will get twice the
performance out of the memory if you buy the right memory for an Nforce2.

Another good cheaper solution with adjustable fan is the Coolermaster OEM
(name slips me now but I can post it later).

ANY of the "AMD recommended (approved)" HSFs rated for an XP-2600+
would be just fine.

If AMD dosn't know what will properly cool their own CPUs, who does?

The Dynatrons are good:

http://www2.amd.com/us-en/thermal/ResultsHandler/1,,30_118_756_759^1039^1050,00.html

You might want to get one higher rated than 2600+ so you can upgrade
later...and use the same HSF. Until then, you know the higher-rated
HSF is cooling your 2600+ just fine.

Good luck,

John D.

The link I gave is supposed to work but may not. The AMD website may
be erratic.

If it doesn't open, then go here and choose "Dynatron" as the
Vendor...it will pull up that address I cited showing the particular
Dunatron HSF (the DC1206BM-l/610-P-Cu) that is SUPPOSED to work!

http://www2.amd.com/us-en/protected/Processors/ProductInformation/1,,30_118_756_759^1039^1050,00.html?1058003402

You can also go here to get the information re: Dynatron at
http://www.dynatron-corp.com/ and see it's rated up to the XP-3200+.

http://www.dynatron-corp.com/product...odel.asp?id=11

I hope at least ONE of all those links work!

But check out the AMD website for more cooling choices...as long as
the HSF is rated for your particular speed AMD CPU and "AMD Approved,"
that's all you need.

Lots of the higer-priced suff isn't really that great and some of the
"cheap" stuff workes even better. I've never had any problem with what
some people call "POS" products...like CoolerMaster for example.
Additionally, either they or Dynatron make the AMD OEM HSFs, IIRC.

Heh dimwit, I've been using the MC462a I bought two years ago across three
different motherboards. Who says you can't use the same heatsink on another
motherboard?
