Can anyone recommend a good quality heatsink for a K7S5A Pro with an Athlon
XP 2000+. This is my wife's system and it's running pretty cool with a
vantec aeroflow right now but that cooler is destined for my third system
since it needs something with the tri-point clip since I went and popped the
middle clip retention thingy on the socket a few weeks ago. Opps.
Been looking at the SLK-800-A or 900-A. Anyone using one of these?

I'm using one of these,
http://www.cclcomputers.biz/acatalog/coolersA370.htm
http://tinyurl.com/3cobu
MicroFlow2 SPA07B2 (Skt A) Ref: CLR0006
Supports AMD Upto XP3200
Very impressed.Even comes with it's own version of,"Arctic Silver"
thermal paste.Very quiet and uses the 3 lock system which means it
will also go onto a standard 1 lock system

G.E. Parmelee III,

I searched and researched for quite a long time to find a good CPU
cooler for an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (266 FSB) processor that will replace
my current Athlon XP 2100+ processor on my K7S5A motherboard. I wanted
a high quality CPU cooler. Shep directed me to the Microflow II
manufactured by Spire-Coolers under the Speeze name. More intense
research on this particular cooler along with other coolers, and I was
really impressed with the Speeze Micro II. It will handle up to an AMD
3200+. Then I started looking for a seller, and expected to pay a hefty
price for this high quality and highly rated CPU cooler. I went to
NewEgg.com and searched for it. I was shocked to find the price to be
$8.99 + shipping! I ordered and received it. (I also ordered the
"Arctic Silver 5" 3.5 gram tube of thermal paste for $7.99 + shipping.
The "5" is supposed to be the best. Shep said that thermal paste is
included with the CPU cooler, but none came with mine, other than the
thermal paste I ordered along with the cooler).
I haven't installed the 2600+ processor and new CPU cooler yet. I
will be doing that in the next couple of days. The model number on the
box of my cooler is: 5T321B1H3G.
Here are some URL's that will show you the CPU cooler and the reviews:

http://www.fannerusa.com/product/SPA07B2.asp

http://www.spirecoolers.com/fcc.asp?prodid=95

Ordered from NewEgg.com in Dec2003:
35-151-108 CPU FAN SPEEZE SPA07B2 MFII AMD RTL $8.99
35-100-007 CPU THERMALPASTE "ARCTIC SILVER 5" 3.5G $7.99

This should save you a lot of time in trying to decide which cooler to
buy and where to get it. If it hadn't been for Shep, I probably would
not have known about this particular cooler, and probably would have
spent three or four times as much for a CPU cooler, thinking that more
expensive is better; not necessarily so! Good luck.

Thanks to both of you for the reply. I've gone ahead and ordered the
Microflow cooler and decided to get an extra for my other system since it
also needs the tri-clip. I plan upgrading it's cpu eventually also so this
will give me some room to play.

I can't believe what a bargain they are as the supplied,"Artic
silver-copy" thermal paste means the HSF is actually cheaper than if
you bought a tube of real Arctic silver!

PS
To get the best out of it I used 500 wet&dry to flatten the machine
marks off the bottom and then polished with,"Brasso" or any metal
polish to a mirror.
O/C XP1800.
Box temp 28 Deg C.
Idle temp 37 Deg C.
Silent.

Every now and then a gem crops up and this is one.I'm well impressed
with this HSF/the price/low noise and the free thermal paste
