rj,

By floppy, I am assuming you are trying to install the drivers from
there. Does this installation happen in XP? or at the CMD prompt?

One thing you might try is to copy the mpt374.sys file manually to
your C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder when you are booted up in XP. Then,
re-boot the computer and see if it now finds the driver.

Just a thought,

Regards,

also, for shtzngrinz, copy the file to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers
folder. If these files cause an error, delete them in safe mode with
the command prompt.

yes i have.no matter what i try it hangs at the point after formatting
the drive, where it starts copying files needed for setup.
it is wierd,it reads the files on the floppy early on during the
install process, but then it says,it cannot find
hpt374.sys,and install must be aborted.all other bios settings are
proper i believe.

Have you checked the floppy contains drivers of revision compatible with the
BIOS?

I had similar issues when installing Win XP Pro on my KV7, the floppy was
marked as version 1.31 but were 1.0 which basically allowed me to load up
but then crashed because the driver was either reported as not found or the
drive contents became corrupt. Let me claify slightly, on occasions I was
actually able to get the Win XP installed, but on reboot it crashed with
drive errors being reported.

Are you sure the some of the files on the floppy are not corrupted?
I often have problem with corrupted floppies, most files might be OK, but it
only takes one corrupted file to mess things up.
Though I suspect you might get an error message.
Did you maintain the file structure when you copied the driver. Sometimes
the files need to be in a subdirectory, depending upon how they are refered
to it the setup/ini files.
You don't need to set the boot order as floppy first, you only need this if
you are booting from the floppy.
In any case this only becomes an issue after you install XP and it reboots.
HTH.
