HP 7310 printing problems

Do you mean:

1. The print is skewed, where a rectangle printed would not be parallel to
the edges of the paper? This could be caused by dirty rollers, try cleaning
them with a damp cloth. Also see

2. The print remains parallel to the top of the page, but lines are shifted
more and more to the right down the page? This would be caused by a dirty
encoder strip. Clean it carefully as shown at:

3. The print is in landscape mode rather than desired portrait? This would
be a driver setting issue.

Suddenly our HP 7310 starting printing down the paper sideways. HP
tech support says it is a printer hardware problem and of course wants
to sell us another one (we already did that once 1 1/2 yrs ago when
our 7110 couldn't be fixed through HP tech support..scam????)
Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas?

We also have an older hardly used HP 7110 that upon power up says to
press enter to start alinement. It will print about half way through
then fails with the same error. Could this be damaged printhead? Would
cleaning printheads help? Cannot clear error once it appears.
