HP-9000/300 series, SCSI + CD-RW?

Hi;

I am using several HP-9000 380 computers with Workstation
Pascal version 3.25l (not Pascal under Unix). I have
successfully added a Seagate 1-Gig SCSI drive to a system,
but I'm not having any luck getting a Hewlett Packard #9200i
CD-RW drive to work. HP had optical drives that supposedly
worked back in the late 1980s, but something is keeping the
CD-RW from working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.

What makes you think that this could/would work? This Pascal version
predates CD-R/CD-RW and probably predates CD(-ROM). OTOH, the magneto-
optical disk drives you are referring to are from the same era and act
like a hard disk. A CD-RW does *not* act like a hard disk, at least not
without special (packet driver) software and that software is unlikely
to be available for a very old product like Workstation Pascal. OTOH,
some people do everything to keep old systems working, so it is not
impossible that maybe, just maybe, someone has written this software.

Wishful thinking is what makes me think it could work. There
is a Pascal program called CTABLE which checks all drives
and various other things during startup. The source code is
provided, as well as instructions for modifying some parts
of the code. I was hoping that someone else had already
accomplished the modifications, though it may be more
complex than modifying CTABLE, involving other drivers as
well. There is also the MEDIAINIT program that may need
modifications. I don't know, but thought I would start
asking. Thank you.
