HP B132L workstation and monitor choices?

I have a customer with and old HP B132L workstation that he was using a
Viewsonic VG910S series monitor. This monitor failed and he put a
Viewsonic VP920B model on with no luck. The system would not display
anything with that unit connected. Talked to HP and they do not have
anything for me. Is there some current monitors that could be purchased
that will work with these older workstations?

I am surprised that the Viewsonic VP920B did not work. I would think that most
any modern 19" multisync monitor would be OK. It needs to support the
frequencies emitted by the B132L. Get the specs for the VG910S, and make sure
any replacement monitor meets or exceeds the horizontal and vertical frequency
ranges of the VG910S... Ben Myers

Perhaps there is some "Tab" key pressing required at startup? IIRC
that was how one got the workstation to cycle through the frequencies.
Might even still be a B132L manual online under docs.hp.com, but I've
not looked for one in a while.

Every monitor of the last 10 years or so should work with the B132L and
it's integrated VisualizeEG gfx. Depending on the monitor you have to
change the video settings, though.

Switch on the monitor and the workstation. Watch the keyboard LEDs. If
they flash press the TAB key and hold it down. The machine now will
cycle to all available video modes. As soon as you see some text on the
monitor release TAB and press ENTER.

Go to google and search for playstation and sync, the ps2 linux groupd
have a database of screens that support sync-on-green :-) If you can't
find it I'll dig out the link.

What for? The B132L does not need sync on green capable monitors...

I agree, the internal graphic did not need sync on green monitors.

However there were some add-on cards (Visualize 8 ?) that were
limited to 1280x1024 72 (?) Hz sync on green only. On some
systems (715 and B132L) we had to go back to internal graphics
to be able to use "normal" LCD-monitors.

Is the system configured to use the internal graphics system?

Yes, the old Visualize8/24 cards required SOG. But these cards are
really old (even older than the B132L), ultra slow, and not supported by
any newer HP-UX version any more. I doubt anyone wants to use such
methusalem even with a B132L...
