I had the same problem finding the exact match for my dad's Pavilion.
But, if you could find the right one listed on the ASUS site, then I
would think that their information would be more trustworthy than
HP's.
XP should run at a tolerable pace with 512Mbs of RAM. At least, until
you start multitasking or running hungry applications.
Check your hard drives transfer modes and make sure that they are
still running in DMA. I have encountered a few instances with XP where
the transfer mode with be spontaneously set back to PIO and never get
reset to a higher speed.
Man that ****ed me off the first time it happened! I couldn't figure
out what the hell was going on for like a week!
