hp v40 cannot send fax to hp 4110

hp v40 cannot send fax to hp 4110

I have a brand new hp 4110. I can get faxes but not
from a friend who got an hp v40, which works great
sending and receiving faxes.

my 4110 is working ok, I get faxes from any old fax machine.
I can send faxes to my friend v40.

But the hp v40 cannot send to my hp 4110; after trying
for 45 seconds to make a connection, the v40 fails
and exit with error 388. The error on hp 4110 is No Fax.

I tried with a different 4110, but same result, and move
it to another location (in case bad phone line), but same
result.

Finally, I tried to turn off ECC on both machine, but still error 388.

This may be a naive question, but is your friend sending the fax in B&W or in
color from the V40? Sending a color fax would be one reason why it might fail.
Not all fax machines can receive color faxes. Otherwise, I'm stumped.
