HP Workstation Shutdown

Does anyone know if there is a command for HP Workstations that
will remotely power off the workstations? The shutdown command
will halt the system, but then the power switch must be manually
pushed in order to turn the system off. Otherwise (if the system
is shut down but the power switch is NOT used to turn the power
off), then the system will attempt to reboot after a power outage.

I'm not particularly concerned about what type of command will do
the powering off. I.e. HPUX, prom, etc. For instance, on the old
Sun hardware I used to use, you could run "init 5" and the system
would phyically power off if possible.

In my environment we have lots of workstations and we like not to
have to physically walk to each one to power them off when (for
instance) building power is being worked on.

TIA, Chris O.

I think that perhaps the newer Itanium-based workstations may have that
option, but I'm not certain.

Turning the problem on its head, since you would still have to walk
from system to system after the power work was complete, you could
instead disable autoboot. Then the remote execution of the shutdown
command, while not powering the machine down, would at least have the
side effect of leaving it in a state where it would not try to reboot
when the power came back on.

The downside is that if the systems crash in the middle of the night
(as unlikely as that is with an HP-UX workstation it would not come
back online without manual intervention.
