All:
Several folks on this group have posted questions about the
prospective replacement of the LCD Inverter to cure the frequent "dim
LCD" problem seen by many of HP's (and others?) laptops, most
particularly for me in the zt1000 series. HP is quoting prices for a
display replacement on the order of $600, which is asinine.
I've put together a very basic website that represents my own
"documentary" of replacing this part myself on a zt1175 laptop, with
per-step photos of the process. It includes links to the manuals I
used to perform the repair, with my own sage (?) commentary, along
with the inverter part number, and a link to the HP parts website.
As always, use this information entirely at your own risk, and the
site provides information only on this particular model, but it might
help you consider if you want to attempt such a repair on your own.
Its not a fancy website with a bunch of sexy graphics, just text and
photos.
The site is

Hope its useful.
