Hi,

I've got an HP LaserJet 6L that was connected to a Win95 machine. I had
the HP supplied drivers installed and it gave me the nice status window
as the printer printed. This status window popped up automatically each
time I sent a job to the printer. These were the screens that showed
time left to print, page of page printed, out to paper, etc.

I got an XPHome machine and I've connected the HP to this using the Plug
and Play drivers supplied with XP by Microsoft. It's been printing fine
for many months, but there is no automatic status window anymore that
pops up, and I find it lacking in other ways.

For instance, if my printer runs out of paper, nothing pops up to tell me
so. Also, I used to be able to set the printer to Economode and have it
stay in this mode. Now, I have to set it everytime I print. It won't
stay as the default.

I found the HP updated driver for XP, lj631en.exe. Has anyone installed
this on an XP machine and gotten back the stauts window?

Sincerely,
Bruce

I tried it, but it failed to work adequately. If you do intend to
install this driver, you should follow the printer
deinstallation/reinstallation procedure at the following site.

Thanks, Q. I guess I'll just stay with the devil I know. And yes, the
only way to install a new driver is to uninstall the old one first.

Sincerely,
Bruce
