Are you 100% sure that the old drive is still OK? Most IDE-to-USB adapters are
fairly simple and foolproof, and they do not require any magic to be
operational. Did the IDE-to-USB adapter you used also require drivers? Usually
they do not with XP.
Just about any functional PCI IDE controller will do the trick for you as long
as it has its own on-board BIOS, which almost all of them do. I would suggest
either Promise or SIIG. Promise is the "name brand" in PCI-IDE. SIIG has
been around almost forever as a manufacturer of add-in cards... Ben Myers
