Does anyone think that it has been improving over time? I have had a
few positive experiences with support from India. Even if the support
were perfect though, it's still scary to see American jobs go
overseas.

It's been good for India, though. These jobs pay good, by Indian
standards. And they have to put an a high tech infrastructures where
none existed before, which means jobs for ordinary construction
workers, electricians, janitors, and so on. But it must suck to answer
the phones from highly stressed out, and possibly ****ed off people
while working the graveyard shift.

In the long run, America isn't doing so badly, either.

Aside from the Stupid War, of course (a debate better left to
alt.politics).

Economically, things are getting a little better, at least in my
region. You can kind of tell by the number of cars with dents, and
mechanical issues on the road. A couple years ago I saw quite a few,
and now, not so many... people can afford to fix or replace, their
cars.

The brightest sign is the Republicans have finally lost their
stranglehold on policy. It's bad when one party controls everything.
It breeds a culture of impunity.

Every week I read/see that tens of thousands of (major corporation)
employees are being laid off, yet unemployment is down.

I don't believe *any* US statistics, these days.

What that means is that people are finding new work. I remember what
2003-05 was like for me, an experience I'd not care to repeat. In 06
and hopefully 07 things are looking up, I can finally afford some car
maintenance I'd had to let slide, and I finally have savings, and am
replacing IRA funds I'd been forced to withdraw in order to pay rent
(tax penalty is way cheaper than payday loans.)

Anyway, here are the official stats.

Just as elections are all about who counts the votes, the govt stats can
be diddled in any direction, e.g., declare that anyone out of work > 12
months has left the work force, thus unemployment drops.

I called Dell's tech support last Saturday afternoon regarding a
defective optical drive. To my amazement, I spoke with a technician whose
accent I could actually understand. He even sounded like an American.
Maybe he was.

Due to macro-economic factors, after the collapse of the dollar and
subsequent worldwide depression, the majority of Americans have been
emmigrating to India to be able to provide cost-effective support to
the remaining wealthy Americans in the heavily guarded gated
communities in North America. Simultaneously, people in India and
China have become wealthier, and the Americans are taking the jobs
that they are not willing to do.
