Input panel not working with Word 2k3

Hi, all! New Tablet PCs (Gateway E295C, XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Version
2002 SP2), Office Pro 2k3 (MVL license)...

I have a problem with the input panel not working with Word 2k3. The
keyboard part works fine, but the handwriting recognition doesn't insert the
text into the document. It works perfectly with literally everything else
(including Excel, notepad, WordPerfect, etc). I've checked the Office setup
under "Alternative User Input" for "Handwriting" option, but it only
contains "Speech" as an alternative input method that can be installed.

Also, there isn't a "Text Services" icon in the Control Panel.

Suggestions? I thought I'd start here (after checked the KB and Google, of
course) before posting to one of the Office forums. Thanks!

Follow-up: I uninstalled Office 2003 Pro and installed Office XP Pro.
Exact same problem: input panel won't insert handwritten text into Word XP,
but works perfectly in all other apps (including Outlook, OneNote 2k7,
WordPerfect, notepad, etc).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Do this. It worked for me.

Open the Control Panel
Open the Add/Remove Programs and check the box that says "show updates".
-after the list has populated-
Find HotFix KB911071 and delete it.
