The download section of the Dell Support web site has Windows 7 drivers
for the Inspiron 1545, both 32-bit and 64-bit... Ben Myers

I'm having problems with the Vista drivers. My DVD writer keeps
disappearing and I'm not the only one having this problem.

Install the Windows 7 Chipset Software and then Matrix Manager software and
driver. Make sure you have BIOS A12 installed.

Is the DVD writer internal?

This is not likely to be a driver problem, as the generic Windows mass
storage device drivers are what is most likely in use.

This system should be based on the Intel GM45 chipset. You should
consider downloading the latest chipset INF package *directly from
Intel* for your system. It cannot hurt anything and may help solve the
problem. However, I think you are really looking for an updated BIOS
from Dell to resolve this problem.
