Inspiron 9300: Battery Life of 13 months sound right?

I have an Inspiron 9300 with a D5318 battery, which is already
complaining that it should be replaced shortly. Even on the Max
Battery power option, I only get 1/2 hour from it. The laptop is 13
months old - should the battery really need replacing so quickly? I
use it on battery power a few days a week, but didn't expect it to
wear out quite so quickly.

I checked Dell's price, and the prices they quote seem outrageous -
€177 euro for a 9-cell battery. Does anyone have any recommendations/
warnings about buying from eBay?

Cheers,

P.

That's at the low-end, but if you're a frequent battery user, it is not
surprising. My daughter's I6000 is dying at that age and my I9300 is close
and just a little older.

Of course it depends how you use it but from my experience and from
what I read, I expect about 18 months so 13 isn't far off. Again it
really depends on how you use it so while I agree it seems short I'd
say it's close enough to the norm IMO.

At that price you can replace it with a whole computer including
battery. Look for one that has a battery you can use, and subtract
the battery price, and see what the difference is.

You can use the second computer as backup for the first. They're
very handy as disk drives, in effect; and if either computer has
trouble, just use the other one.

Even a deadish battery serves as a UPS, in effect, for momentary
power glitches, as well.
