Internet Explorer 7 - How to Get Rid of?

I just downloaded Internet Explorer 7. I've had it for two hours and I
do not like it. It is very non-customizable. Also, when I'm surfing web
pages my screen does not seem to be as sharp as it was.

So, can I get rid of this and go back to the one I had? The one I had
came with my Dell (I got this PC last year at Christmas). The help section
in Internet Explorer says to just un-install it. Will that do any harm to
Windows? The past version of I.E. will then there. Is that correct? Is it
safe to go ahead and do this?

I do not like this new version - I can't get rid of the second search
bar in the top right hand corner. I can not move the bars around.

Thanks!

Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs

Remove 7 and you're back to 6.

By the way, for more IE discussions, head over to the microsoft.public.internetexplorer
newsgroup.

I got rid of it. I.E. 7 sucked. Maybe I should have given it more time
tho. Funny thing is - after I installed it the visual image did not seem
very sharp as it was with 6. Now that I've un-installed 7 and went back to
6 it is sharp again.

Turn on the menu bar. Turn off ClearType (fuzzy type in my mind). I
find that IE7 really is better than IE6. If you want to remove it, it's
in Control panel / Add remove software, BUT you MUST click "show
updates" at the top. I think it's listed as Windows Internet Explorer
7. It is safe to remove, you will revert to IE6.

You could also try FireFox 2.

I recommend Mozilla Firefox. It has tabs, and you can configure the
toolbars. I don't know why MS went away from that.

Agreed. I read several reviews and the consensus of opinion was IE 7
was an improvement over 6 but that Firefox 2 was slightly better than
IE 7 and a lot better than IE 6.

Personally I don't trust MS and IE is always subject to a lot of net
attacks so I switched about 1 year or so ago to Firefox and never
regretted it at all. I do love the tabs in their browser.. very handy
and the many extensions you can add to increase it's functions right
away. I have read that Firefox is subject to attack but its not
common and it's fairly rugged to these attacks. I tend to not worry
since I run a router and a software firewall and feel fairly safe as a
result of Firefox, router and firewall.

Amongst the extensions, I can recommend:

Aardvark (lets you remove clutter from a page for printing etc)
http://karmatics.com/aardvark/

Mouse gestures (drives me crackers not having this in work !)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/39/

Flashblock (prevents automatic loading of Flash animations/movies)
http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

StumbleUpon (simply rocks when you're bored !)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/138/

VideoDownloader (allows you to grab the movies from YouTube etc)

I don't know about the consensus of people that say Firefox 2 is only
*slightly* better than IE.
It is my opinion that Firefox is *much* better that IE 7. After
installing IE7, everything on my
system slowed down to a crawl. As to how good IE is, that is debatable,
But for my money
and time, I'll stay clear of any IE product.. And if a web site
requires IE, then I'll just use
Netscape 8 and set the brower engine to IE mode just for those web
pages. I bounce back
and forth between Firefox and Netscape.

in my limited experience this is what i have found necessary to uninstall
ie7:
-from add/remove programs uninstall the new google toolbar that is installed
as part of ie7 (not sure if this is installed as part of the automatic
critical update installation but it certainly is as part of the manual
download of ie7). ie7 uninstall will prompt you to do this if you have not
already done so.
-from add/remove programs uninstall ie7
-reinstall adobe acrobat so that the integration with ie6 works as expected
(automatic opening of pdf files found on web sites).
-reinstall java. i found that the verify installation tool on java.com
would not work after uninstalling ie7 and that the only solution was to do a
manual download of java, save it to the local desktop and then run it from
there.
-not sure about flash, shockwave, and other add ins but you will know you
have a problem if/when they fail to work.
