Hi

After a house move and having sat gathering dust on my floor for the
best part of 18 Months I finally decided to resurrect my trusty 6100C w/
ADF. Having wiped it down, scavenged a SCSI card for it (installing that
was fun) and plugged everything in, using the windows scanner and camera
wizard in XP (yuck), it would appear that the scanner is working. I
remember posting on here about how much I didn't care for the Deskscan
2.9 software, and wondering whether the precisionscan software was any
better... problem is I forget where I got the precision-scan software
from, I think it was Ben Myers or some other helpful soul that gave me a
link to somewhere on HP....

I am of course open to suggestions for other software to use (need to
dig out my Photoshop disc) and am rather pleased that the scanner seems
to have suffered no ill effects from its time in (rather poor) storage -
That said I have not played with my ADF yet

any and all suggestions appreciated

Andrew

PS Thankfully this group is still here!

Andrew,

I have not finished all my experiments with HP software, but I can tell you for
sure not to use DeskScan 2.9 with XP despite HP's erroneous indication that it
would work.

I would suggest going to the HP web site and downloading the various versions of
PrecisionScan for HP's SCSI scanners, including Precision Scan Pro 1.02 and
2.03, and the software for the ScanJets 6200c and 7400c. I've downloaded all
four of them, but still have not set up my XP computer with the scanner.

You can also spend $US50 or so and license a somewhat universal bit of scanning
software from a 3rd party company. If you want to run Linux, support for just
about any SCSI scanner is built right in... Ben Myers

Ben,

Have Downloaded the 6200c version of precision scan pro (2.03 -
sj675en.exe) and the 7400c (3.0 - sj677en.exe) I cannot get version 3.0
to work, says "scanner not found" if I try and do anything. It would be
nice to be able to have a look at the newer version of Precision scan
pro, any possible workarounds for this ?

I notice that the earlier version is a much bigger download, 95.2 MB vs
46.5MB....

If I am stuck on the earlier version then no matter, happy to have a
working scanner, just curious.

cheers

Andrew

HP scanner software is cranky enough without tempting it. If you have any
version of PrecisionScan working with your computer, XP and an HP scanner,
consider yourself very lucky. And do not try to fix it if it ain't broke!
