Inspiron now offering an XP option? Also, please notice the entry at the
bottom: "North American-based phone support."

XP still isn't being offered on all Inspiron or Dimension in either Home or
Small Business sites, so I'm kind of wondering why on this model:

Inspiron 6400 copy from the e-mail:

24/7 service and support by us.

I got that one too. 6400 and 9400 have the XP/Vista Option. All
others just have the Vista.
However, checking each option in the customizing, XP is not on the list
of options for the OS for the either one.

Yeah, the site won't let you choose XP for the 9400.

Maybe it's not working yet.

They may have waited until after March 15th to [re]make the Vista/XP
choice available, since before March 15th, if you got XP preloaded, you
were then also eligible for a free upgrade to Vista.

I'm glad they are offering a choice!

If you're thinking of getting it, I recommend upgrading the processor
to Core 2 Duo. Also, the one with 4M cache, although if that's too
expensive the Core 2 Duo with 2M cache is a better choice than the
Core Duo (confusing names).

Also, if you have a _legal_ copy of XP, you may want to consider
getting the Vista one, imaging the hard drive (not hard with Acronis
TrueImage), then installing XP, if you think Vista isn't ready for
your needs.

Note: it may be hard to have a _legal_ copy of XP.

Not too bad, but still not great. Dell certainly needs to get more
competitive on pricing. There are some better deals out there among other
brands.

Pricing wasn't the point. The mention of XP as an option and "north
american-based phone support" was......supposed to be.

10-4. I've been wanting to purchase a I-6400, but I've not seen as good of
deals as I once did.

Dell has had Dimension 25% off coupons for a while now. That helps. I
think Dell's using a new pricing scheme to boost profits. Inspirons
have had a $400 off coupon for several months now. It helps, but not
as much as the $750 off coupons they used to have.
