OK, I realize a NG is mainly for problem fixes, and from reading this
group, it appears that a lot of folks have problems with their K7S5A.
I'm just here to give you guys my config and say that it has been up and
running SETI 24/7 (and all my other stuff) for over 2 years now with
only one small initial problem (see below). Given it was an el-cheepo
impulse buy at Frys one afternoon, I can't complain:
K7S5A Ver 3.1 (Latest BIOS from ECS Taiwan site, no tweeking done, all
stock settings)
Athlon XP 2200+
Solid copper coolermaster HSF
Antec case w/Antec 350W power supply
3 case fans
2 x 256 DDR PC2100 ram, generic
1 old Seagate 4GB SCSI drive w/Adaptec controller
1 old Seagate 4GB IDE
1 old WD 12 GB IDE
1 WD 120GB IDE
1 DVD player
ATI 8500LE 64mb
1.44 Floppy
I use the Mobo's SiS chip LAN conection
SB Live Value
Extra PCI USB port card
56k hardware modem (just in case high speed connection burps)
The problem? BIOS data loss new out of the box. Replaced the crappy
chinese mobo battery with a Duracell and voila: problem solved.
I hope it hangs on until the socket 939 PCI-E mobos come out in the
comming months. Then it will be time for an upgrade. Just my 2 cents....
