after exchange several board from Fry's, I now realized that it's the
battery or the CMOS that's causing the problem.
As long as I don't change anything in the BIOS, it will continue to
post. If I change anything and save settings, the next time power is
turned on, it will NOT post!!!
I know the battery problem may cause lost setting or something but
this one actually turn the mobo in deep freeze. I mean turn on the
power and the fan turns, but no post, nothing!
Clear the CMOS will force it to get the default setting and it post
again.
Does anyone has similar problem? Does a new battery will fix it? I
like the combo (esp. the price), but I can't keep going back to
exchange another board.
please help!!!

Have you tried a bigger PSU? I did suggest this a week ago.............!

The K7S5A will post at 100/100 with an inadequate PSU, but not at 133/133.
This may be the change in the BIOS which is responsible for the subsequent
failure to post. Try a BIG PSU...........

New case, new psu? Several boards from Fry's? Doesn't sound like cmos
battery to me. Sounds like the PC100 don't work, a short between case and
mb or faulty pci/cable connection. I had post problems caused by a loose
ATX on/off switch. If you took the mb back to Frys' they can test post it
for you.

K7S5As are very particular about power and memory. OEM memory from Frys' is
not the right quality. Strongly suggest 1 stick of ECS recommended PC133 or
PC2100 memory.

You cannot expect PC100 RAM to run at 133 mhz, but the Crucial PC2100 should
be fine..........

A 350w PSU is not necessarily big enough, it depends on the various rail
ratings and the TCO.

Your problem is obvious given the revelation that you are using pc100
memory. The board will boot at 100/100 and that is all you should
expect. You're using yesterday's memory in a more modern mobo design,
part with $30 and get yourself 256 meg of pc133 memory.
