K7S5A Replacement

I recently had my own K7S5A board and/or Athlon 1700+ chip go out on me and
because of lack of funds am considering replacing it with the same
board(version unknown) and a Duron 1.3Ghz for $55. Now I'd be buying the
board and chip from someone in a local newsgroup and is still in unopened
box.

My question is: Is it worth the gamble, given the issue's I've read here, to
get this board again and with no chance at a return?

My last K7S5A I was unable to run the processor at full 1.453 or something
because the system would just shutdown when I tried to play any half-life
mod. The fix was dropping it to 1100ghz and then no problem.

I've had no speed limitations with the k7s5a systems I've built (I own
1, but have built maybe 6 or 7 for other users). I urge people to use
good quality ram, and a decent HSF.

Did you try ebay or outpost.com for a better board + processor combo. Few
problems here.

Forgive the ignorance but what's HSF?

A friend has a P4 1.5 that he'll give to me. Any suggestion on a good board
for it? TIA

Check out bundles with the,"Asrock" boards and bundles. These have been
recommended as a good replacement for ECS on price and quality by
HoneyX on here,
http://pub140.ezboard.com/bk7s5amotherboardforum
If my ECS goes and I struggle to find a replacement I know local
dealers are stocking the,"Asrocks" now and they are an Asus based
board I'm led to believe.

Thx Shep and everyone else to reply. I check into the Asrocks and ordered
this particular one..
http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/x533.htm

I found it for only $40, $44 w/shipping(
http://www.z-buy.com/product.asp?item=MB-ARX533GS ) and very much like all
the options. Now I gotta find me a P4 1.7Ghz or higher cpu for it. Anyone
offering a good deal on a P4 1.7 or better???? lol thx again all.
