K7S5A replacement

What is a good replacement for ECS K7S5A? (I don't wish to spend as
much as Asus A7N8X costs.) I built a # of these systems, few years ago, and
wish to upgrade 2 of them that keep losing CMOS--even tho' owners, quite
unsavvy re: computers, do not realize it. Thanks, s

Do you want to go with a new processor (e.g. Athlon 64) or re-use the
current processors (Socket A)?

Hey, Tim, thanks for answering & asking. I wish to keep the present
cpu. Just want to make these customers happy--hoping they and others will
get me to build their next ones. I feel that volunteering this repair, even
they don't know anything's amiss, will offer much greater returns than the
cost involved. (I did such in used cars, and the returns were priceless.
Now,
all I can do is sell used comp's, build new ones, & repair some--only on
'good' days.)
Just a Socket A replacement that would maintain a 133fsb & run these at
rated
parameters would suffice. (However, a relatively inexpensive one that would
overclock
via fsb and/or multiplier would be nice, as most all the older xp+s I've
used were exactly
alike: regardless of rated speed, all run just as well as the highest-rated
ones even
w/o over-volting.) These systems both have 2100+ cpu's mfg'd long before
38th week
of '03, so they have unlocked mult's.
I'd love to use Asus A7N8X like in my system, but these are too
expensive. I think
some versions of Asus A7V-333's will replace the existing ECS's, but I'm not
sure which.
I've seen some of these, new, on Ebay that I could buy for under $30
w/shipping which
would be perfect assuming (??) version 1.04 would have worked. BTW: I am not
anti
ECS, just anti-K7S5A and closely similar.

The biggest challenge seems to be availability of new mainboards for
Socket A, rather than refurbished or used. Since you're not opposed to
PC Chips or ECS, I found another SIS chipset for ya (the replacement
for SIS735/745):

If Micro-ATX board is acceptable, I've used a few ASRock K7VM3 boards
based on VIA KM266 PRO with no trouble:

KM266 PRO is actually a remarked KM400 and supports up to 333MHz bus

Yeah, NForce 2 would be nice, but that would be more of an upgrade from
SIS735 rather than a replacement. I figured you probably aren't
looking for high-end enthusiast boards. I saw some Abit K7V (not
K7V-V) KT600 boards on Ebay from a reputable seller for around $55,
though. Anyway, good luck.

Tim, I kind of like that AsRock K7VM3. Might just order one for
friend's Xmas. Thank you for the advice. s
