I purchased a K7S5A a couple of years ago and figured I'd upgrade the MB
before I needed more USB ports than the 2 on the back of the board. Lo and
behold, I still have the MB and now need the optional adapter to put 2 more
ports on the front of my case.
Does anyone know where I can get one of these adapters without purchasing
another MB.

Thanks for any help,
Gary

I'd try eBay.

You can probably find the "ports" you need if you have a header on the
board but need the plumbing to plug into. Or as mentioned, pick up a PCI
card with USB 2.0 ports on it. (just took a quick peek and it looks
like the cards go in the $10 range + shipping)

Gary,

You may want to check EBay for a combination USB 2.0 and Firewire
board. That way you get both USB 2.0 and Firewire, while only using one
of your PCI slots. I found a seller last year on EBay that regularly
sold these new boards, and bought one for a very reasonable price. I
will check for the particulars and get back with you.

Gary,

This is the only combo board I have found on EBay so far. This will
give you an idea of what it is.

Gary,

Just did another search on EBay for the combination USB 2.0 and
Firewire boards. There are a ton of them ranging in price from $10
(start bid) to $30 (with many in the "Buy It Now" category for under $30).

I purchased an Antec branded drivebay addon that includes a cable that
is pin compatible with the extra USB header on the k7s5a and has 2 USB
connectors on the front panel. Alternatively, a USB hub is a nice
addon. Cost was about $10 I think, bought it sometime back at Best
Buy (maybe).

Heh, I knew I posted that info somewhere.

Apparently the USB header configuration is fairly standard, as the
antec drivebay addon works with my new Asus A7N8X-DLX mobo also.

Ron,
That's what I was looking for! Thanks for the help. I also liked the idea
of the firewire/USB pci card, but those don't solve my problem of having to
plug in to the back of they system. This device solves that problem.

Thanks again,
Gary Beard

The Antec front panel is fairly simple to switch wires around on the
connector end to match pretty well any motherboard pinout. I use one on
both my A7N8X Deluxe, my wife's K7S5A Pro, and now on my son's system I am
putting together with a Soyo Dragon Lite KT333 I had sitting in the closet.
