K7S5A - won't take some processors

I have an ECS K7S5A ver 3.1 and so does a friend
- the only difference is that mine has a small white sticker near the
version number that has a 'one' on it, my friend's sticker has a 'two' on
it.
Bios is the same, only other difference is he has 2 x 256mb crucial pc2100
and I have 1x256mb samsung pc2100.

I modded an XP1800+ on the bridges to a 2000+ and his board will take it -
mine would not post - until I undid the mod.

His board will take a Barton 2500+ and boot up (not tried 166fsb though) -
mine will not even post with the same Barton in it at any fsb setting.

Also I tried the wire pin mod - mine will only take the voltage settings -
any multiplier changes at all on mine and no post.

Anyone got any idea as to why this is - does that little white sticker mean
so much?

Would your friend let you try swapping the memory to see if that makes
the difference? If things are still the same at least you would know
it's your board.

I don't know if it's true, but I was told that the little white stickers
identify which factory your board was built in. ECS had about 7 or 8
factories making these boards. It's supposedly so they can track the
quality control of each plant when boards are RMA'd. I don't know why
they wouldn't just do that by the serial number, but that's the rumour.

My version # is located on the left edge...looking at the MB with the Power supply at upper left corner of the box. It runs perpendicular to the PCI slots, right next to the bottom left mounting screw (in very small print)
