Yes it seems your board will likely not accept an Athlon XP. Your board
seem to be manufactured in week 19 but ECS says only K7VZA 3.0 after
week 40 take the XP. Nevertheless you could try out, but i guess it
won't work, in my case it didn't. It would be interesting to ask for
people succesfully using an Athlon XP with their K7VZA 3.0 and what
their serial number is. But I'll go for an K7S5A Pro 5.0 anyway, because
it's SiS735 chipset is much more powerful than the old KT133a.

The old Athlon Thunderbird with 1.4 Ghz.

*As far as i know* the K7S5A (and it's successor K7S5A Pro 5.0 which I
want to go for) may even be the only board which takes PC133 SDRAM and
the Athlon XP, but you may ask Google, maybe other manufacturers built
boards with the SiS735 chipset and SDRAM support, but i don't know
any...

I don't use Windows, so don't take my words for granted, but since
Windows XP is more advanced than W98 I guess it will handle a
motherboard change without much trouble and since we're talking about
"older" mainboards it will likely include drivers for UDMA100 operation
for your harddrive(s). But ask some Windows folks to be sure.

I agree that the fastest CPU which this board is likely to take is a 1.4
266mhz. T Bird.

The K7S5A and the K7S5A Pro are obvious choices, but the K7AMA is also
possible. I have one of these running with an Athlon XP 1800 quite
satisfactorily and have just upgraded from SDR to DDR RAM. It uses the ALI
chipset M1645, has onboard LAN and sound and will support up to XP 2600
Palomino with the latest BIOS.

Windows XP may be more advanced than Windows 98, but it is not as flexible
in terms of motherboard changes. It is unlikely to work without a repair
installation or reinstallation of the OS.

I went from a VIA chipset to a Sis chipset and windows 2k would NOT
let me switch the old disk image. Had to reload a new copy of OS.

Neither Win2K or XP will just automagically redetect the motherboard
hardware if you change them. The HAL is too complex for that.

When you change motherboards you need to do a repair install. That
will redetect the hardware but save the data and installed programs.

Have to redo the service packs, I.E. updates, and such (since they're
not on the original CD).

Thanks for the clear answer.
