This motherboard with a S754 Sempron CPU and 1GB of ram has been running
like a dream for 6 months then recently it started having errors such as the
video card would vanish from device manager (XP Pro) and shutting down the
computer ended with the message " it is now safe to turn off the computer".
The missing video card would come up in device manager and it said that
there were not enough resources available etc yet it was fine for 6 months.
I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP Pro with the motherboard
drivers and SP1 and it would give me these errors almost straight away. The
ram tested ok but I changed it and reformatted and reinstalled XP Pro etc
again but it still had errors. I swapped the ribbon cable to the hard drive
but with the same results. I run the Seagate diagnostic tests on the hard
drive in another machine and the tests say the hard drive is working
properly.
I installed a new hard drive into this computer and installed XP Pro etc
again and it works like a dream again. Conclusion is that even though the
diagnostic tests say that the hard drive is ok I believe that the original
hard drive is faulty somehow.
This is the first time I have encountered this problem and while the
diagnostics say that the drive is good, it isn't.
Anybody got any ideas on this?
