Laptop Warranty Question

Last year when I got a Dell laptop from their home business division I
did not
buy an extended warranty. It came with a one year warranty. Last month and
today
I have received letters in the mail from Dell informing me that my warranty
will expire
soon and I should buy an extension.

My question - how much is a one year extension? They do not list prices
on the
letter. All it says is call them. I really don't want to call right now.
But I would like
to know how much a one year warranty is. And if my laptop has been running
fine
should I even buy an extension?

Thanks!

I extended my Dell M60 for 2 years next business day, £147.

a new screen would cost this or maybe more.
a new mobo would well exceed this.
a new graphics card would probably exceed this.

its goes on............

You should be able to go to the Dell website, put in your service tag
number and it'll show you your extended warranty options. I did that
last year, re-up'ed for another year. Think it was something like $80
for a year extension.

Had 3 warranty issues with my daughter's B130 laptop, all covered with
no problems. Wall wart died - replaced. Optical drive malfunctioned,
system would see DVDs but not CDs - shipped me a new one overnight.
Outside top cover developed cracks in the plastic near the hinges -
shipped to Dell to replace the cover - back in a week. As far as I'm
concerned, the warranty has been a good investment.

All of these warranty issues were handled through Dell's online tech
support chat, all have been positive experiences.

I never buy them. A whole new computer is cheaper in the long run,
when you need it.

I have never bought a warranty extension for anything other than
laptops. I have never needed a warranty extension for anything other
than laptops. Only you can decide if it provides enough peace of mind
to be worth it. Dell has always fixed any laptop problems with quick
turnaround and I have been very happy with their service. This year I
did have to use complete care for the first time and I am glad I had
it.

Essentially you're buying it as a protection against system board or LCD
replacement.

You might price both items on ebay just for some idea of potential costs
(and installation, unless you'll be doing that yourself.)

If you want a good laugh, you could call Dell spare parts and price both
components from there as well. Prepare to be amazed.

??????? Your argument *might* apply with a desktop/tower, but with
laptops, the cost of an extended warrantee are very cost effective since
repair of a laptop is always very expensive and almost always must be
done by the vendor...
