Laptop won't turn on

Hi
I have a Packard Bell Easynote and it won't turn on!
For the last 6 months the battery alone hasn't worked and it only works plugged into the mains.
And now, the mains are still working as the light is on the power pack yet my laptop still won't turn on, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
