Larjet 5

My purchase used laserjet 5 prints 2 streaks across the printed side
of the paper. They are 1/3 and 2/3 down the paper horizontally. They
appear a little heavier on the left and less heavy on the right.

Someone told me it might be the cartridge and to try replacing it.

I remember in the copier days in business about ten to 12 yrs ago it
meant a drum was dirty or bad.

Can anyone tell me what all the causes might be.

I'm a disabled minister, not yet receiving any disability of any type
so every dollar must count.

Can anyone help me with suggestions?

Can you measure the exact vertical distance between the top of the first streak
and the top of the second streak.
If it is 3 11/16 inches (94mm) then the cartridge is indeed to blame and will
need to be replaced, the drum in the cartridge more specifically. Cleaning the
drum is extremely unlikely to correct the problem unfortunately.
If it is 3 1/8 inches (79mm) then I am afraid that the problem is the fuser and
this may cost more to repair than the printer would cost to replace.
However I suspect the cartridge will be the problem and the above measurements
will tell you conclusively.
