Laserjet 4MP Jams

I have an HP Laserjet 4MP that's been operating beautifully for over a
decade. Lately though, about half the time, the paper makes it out
about 3/4 of the way, and then jams. The print quality is still
excellent so I'd like to see if I could get a few more years' service
out of this printer. Could this be something like a problem with a
rubber roller or something that could be replaced?

Thanks.

After all these years, the rubber rollers that feed the paper are dried out.
There is a commercial rubber renewal spray to get the rollers back into shape.
I've found that automotive brake fluid works just as well. These are temporary
measures which would give the printer addtional life of 6 months to a year.
Replacement of rollers with new ones is the long term solution, but it is a
tedious job, not quite worth it for a 10 year old printer. If the brake fluid
does not work, it's time for a newer laser printer... Ben Myers

Brake fluid??? How in the world did you come up with that one?

Thanks so much, Ben. I'll give it a shot.

Urban legend or something like that. If you think about it, brake fluid makes
sense. Hydraulic brake pistons often have neoprene diaphragms, and they need to
be kept soft and pliable, same as printer rollers. Use a clean lint-free cloth
and wipe a very tiny amount onto the entire roller surface. Let the printer
sit for a while for the brake fluid to act... Ben Myers

I have the same problem as Fleemo (but with a 6MP), but in my case the
rollers are sticky, i.e. the paper sticks to the rollers (in the back of
the printer), thereby causing a jam.

When the printer is not used for some time, it can print one or two
pages and then starts to stick/jam. Wetting the rollers with water or
alcohol helps a little bit, but not much.

Would you suggest the same approach, brake fluid, for this case as
well? (I couldn't find rubber renewal spray anywhere, so that's no
option.)

Thanks in advance.
