I recently purchased the Netgear MA521 wireless card. I could not get
it to run under SuSE 9.0 because its not well supported and you have
to compile the drivers yourself or something like that. If you are
gonna buy a new wireless card do not buy this one. Having said that
it works fine under Windows XP Professional... for a while. The only
ever time I have problems with it is when I try to go to
http://www.apricotweb.com and then into the chat room. I get a blue
screen with the error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and some other
information that I can't make heads or tails of. However it does
mention MA521.sys somewhere on the screen so I guessed it was a
problem with the wireless card.
I tried to update the driver from the netgear site but it didn't help.
And all the drivers are unsigned anyway which is a bit strange coming
from a company like Netgear... oh well. But anyway, eventually I
remembered something about when I was trying to get it working under
SuSE 9.0, and that was that it has a Realtek 8180L chipset (or
something). So I went to their website and downloaded the
corresponding driver (version 1.65 for XP). That seemed to fix the
problem with that website. I don't know if its created any new
problems but everythings working fine. If you manage to read this, I
suggest getting the Realtek drivers as I'm sure the problem with the
netgear ones can't be restricted to just one site on the internet, and
I've been there quite a lot.
To cut a long story short, FOR MA521 USE THE REALTEK 8010L DRIVER NOT
THE NETGEAR ONE.
Thanks I hope this helps somebody.
