My guess is that Intel knows what it will do, and that 3.0 was the
fastest shipping when the manual was printed. I would look to see if
there was a newer BIOS *before* updating the CPU.
The chances of hurting the m/b are small, usually it just won't work, or
runs the CPU underclocked. That's *not* a promise that your experience
will not damage something, just that it shouldn't.
